Dear all,

Its nothing new..but my views on the books to study inside out

1.Campbell------Ofcourse I dont have to stress on it...U must know inside out including  surgical approaches..latest volume is excellent so much so that u dont have to read most journals; as it exhaustively covers many topics...No excuse if you missed a question from Campbell..!!!!!!!
2.Rockwood------must read latest edition especially adult volume..beautifully covers osteoporosis and its markers(asked in dec2008), ARDS(dec2008), Pathological fractures, damage control ortho(june 2008), Gunshot spine injury(dec2008)etc...must read all fracture classification and management including scapula and clavicle and war and blast injuries(DNB Anything they can ask!!)..Also go thru Evidence Based Medicine chapter, a question not yet asked in DNB and it may be asked in the future..Please read the general topics scattered all over the book like VAC (vaccum assisted closure), polytrauma and make notes well ahead. For eg ARDS is mentioned in 3 to 4 chapters and if u make a note of it together thats it...no more worries..

3.Mercer's--I think the new volume is already out..plz find out...anyway the last edition is very important...Again it is suicidal to miss any question from Mercer...as many a time Mercer's topics are asked as such in DNB..ESPECIALLY physical medicine and rehab eg Exercises in ortho(june 2008).Some people may not like the style of the book..but u have no choice ...

4.Miller's Review of Orthopaedics--An excellent book similar to Mercer's followed all over the globe and I read it before my practicals only and I think its very comprehensive single volume book..if u have time try going thru...

5.Kulkarni---Latest volume...I read only few topics such as Leprosy(june2008),damage control ortho...its a wonderful book and I frankly got scared of it....many topics such as SLAP Lesion,JESS are extensively covered...Read PMR, Paraplegia and other topics which are not covered in other books...some of my seniors have covered the book very well AND it helped them..

6.Tachdjian's paediatric ortho--read selective SCFE,Perthes,DDH,CTEV,CP,Polio,Limbing child, growth and devt ,neck shaft angle, femoral anteversion etc ....we enerally cover the book in my place...

7.Tuli for TB--GOES WITHOUT SAYING

8.TUREK--New single volume edition--few topics like fibromyalgia, PVNS,THR ETC are very well covered...Old Turek two volume read selectively such as thoracic outlet syndrome, gait, prosthesis etc

I may have missed out some books followed in othr parts of India as I understand there are some good new books...please share ur thoughts with others

thats it for now

Very nice of u.Just to ask whether campbell should be read with turek side by side.,since campbell focus is more on treatment and very less is discussed about disease pathology and clinical diagnosis.pls comment.
